The AJ-37 Viggen is a Swedish combat aircraft developed by Saab. One meaning of the name "Viggen" is a reference to the Swedish word for thunderbolt, åskvigg. This word in turn comes from åskviggar, mythical thunderstones produced by the Norse god of thunder Thor striking his hammer Mjölnir.[1] Sonic Wings draws upon this meaning for the AJ-37's bomb, Thor's Hammer. At full power, the AJ-37 Viggen's main weapon fires eight consecutive shots straight head from its wings. The Metal Storm sub weapon fires two missiles forward from the aircraft, and the Thor's Hammer bomb fires seven guided missiles which eliminate enemy bullets and damage any enemies they hit.

The AJ-37 retains its weapons from Sonic Wings, with the addition of the RE04E Anti-Ship Missile charge shot. This missile flies straight forward and erases enemy bullets, but it loses hit points with contact. When its HP reaches zero, the missile disappears.
"RE04E" is a misspelling of RB-04E, a variant of the RB-04 (Robot 04) anti-ship missile. The RB-04E was developed specifically for the AG-37 Viggen.[2]
