Escape Express (脱走急行) is a humorous military manga by Video System game designer Mushika Fumihiko (六鹿文彦). It is unrelated to the 1996 manga Toubou Kyuukou (逃亡急行) whose title can also be translated as "Escape Express."
Overview[]
Escape Express consists of two volumes. Mao Mao is a minor character in the main story, and volume one includes a short comic prequel to Sonic Wings depicting how she came to be caught up in the battle. Various Video System characters have cameos throughout the two volumes, including several Inufuku in volume two.
Short Story Plot Summary[]
The story seems to take place before and during during the first level of Sonic Wings based upon some of the characters' dialogue, but most of the events deviate from anything shown during gameplay.
Gore is commanding Super X Kai from the ground, ordering it to burn up Tokyo. Project Blue's pilots appear, with Keaton and Kowful providing air cover while the others attack according to Lord River-N-White's command. Mao Mao questions what she's supposed to do, and River informs her that she should just watch. Mao Mao asks herself what's the point in her even being there, if that's the case.
As Project Blue attacks, Gore decides that it's too dangerous to continue as things are, and he orders Super X Kai to "Combine!" It connects itself to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building to form Tocho-Robo. River phones the governor of Tokyo to inform him that the building has become a giant mecha, but the governor says that he already knows (presumably because the idea of a Tocho-Robo seems to be a running joke in Japan). River says, no, that's not what he means.
Laughing maniacally, Gore orders Tocho-Robo to shoot using an attack called "Tokyo Metropolitan Government Robo Laser & Missile Massive Fire!" He says bitterly, "I'm gonna make you pay for what you did to me." As Gore is gloating, Hien appears behind Gore and startles him. Hien declares that "[i]t's been a long time" and he won't tolerate any further violence. Gore returns that "[i]t makes for an interesting revenge."
Meanwhile, Tee-Bee A-10 transforms into a giant mecha himself to battle Tocho-Robo, boasting that he's "the most powerful fighting machine in the world." Hien and Gore are both stunned. However, Kowful calls Tee-Bee an idiot and complains that he took up a whole page in the manga for a transformation that isn't even in the game. After he threatens Tee-Bee with punishment, Hien and Gore agree to start over after the interruption.
While Tee-Bee and Tocho-Robo battle in the background, Gore and Hien engage in a fist fight. Hien appears to have something on his mind, and while he's seemingly distracted, Gore grasps his throat. Hien then declares that he's been waiting for this and electrocutes Gore with an attack called "Rangaku Ninja Electric Shock." Overwhelmed, Gore orders Tocho-Robo to retreat, but it then falls apart having been vanquished by Tee-Bee. Gore warns Project Blue not to think that they've won and refers to them specifically as "humans" before bidding them farewell and vanishing.
Hien and Mao Mao are then shown standing in Tokyo amidst ruins and defeated machines, including Lar.
