"Ethio-kun" is a Protopterus aethiopicus, commonly known as the marbled or leopard lungfish. Besides the absurdity of a fish appearing in the desert, the marbled lungfish is native to Africa which makes its appearance in the Grand Canyon even more bizarre.
Normally, a tank bursts from a hidden cave in the wall as the player nears the end of the canyon, but occasionally, Ethio-kun will emerge instead to attack the player.
